Peter Clark, General Manager Gambling, Money Services and International
Peter Clark was appointed General Manager, Domestic and International Relations at the Australian Transaction Reports and Analysis Centre (AUSTRAC) in August 2006. He is also an active member of AUSTRAC's Executive Committee and Leadership Group.
Prior to joining AUSTRAC, Peter was a consultant and Financial Sector Specialist at the International Monetary Fund (IMF) in Washington DC. His responsibilities included providing advice on the structure and regulation of financial markets, and for developing technical assistance and capacity building initiatives. While at the IMF, he completed a major review of the Fund's experience with assessments of securities regulation under the Financial Sector Assessment Program.
Peter served as Secretary General of the International Organisation of Securities Commissions (IOSCO) from 1998 to 2001, based first in Montreal and then Madrid. As Secretary General, he guided the international standard-setter for securities regulation through a period of significant developments in financial markets and oversaw the implementation of the IOSCO global standards by the organisation's members.
From 1991 to 1998, Peter was Head of International Relations at the Australian Securities and Investments Commission (ASIC), with responsibility for management of ASIC's relationships with overseas regulatory authorities and participation in multilateral forums such as IOSCO.
Peter joined Westpac Banking Corporation as a graduate trainee in 1985 and subsequently occupied a number of positions at head office in the international and group credit policy areas. He was appointed Manager, Country Risk in 1988 and served as Secretary to the Westpac Group's Credit Committee from 1990 to 1991.
