About AUSTRAC

As Australia’s anti-money laundering and counter-terrorism financing regulator and specialist financial intelligence unit, the Australian Transaction Reports and Analysis Centre (AUSTRAC) plays an important role in the global fight against crime.

The Australian Transaction Reports and Analysis Centre (AUSTRAC) is Australia's anti-money laundering and counter-terrorism financing regulator and specialist financial intelligence unit, originally established under the Financial Transaction Reports Act 1988 (FTR Act) and continued in existence by the Anti-Money Laundering and Counter-Terrorism Financing Act 2006 (AML/CTF Act).

AUSTRAC collects financial transaction reports information from a range of cash dealers and reporting entities including the financial services and gaming sectors, as well as solicitors and members of the public. This information is stored, analysed and disseminated as financial intelligence to domestic and international agencies.

The agency works with domestic law enforcement, revenue, national security and social justice agencies, as well as international counterparts, to combat money laundering and terrorism financing. It also plays an essential part in combating major crimes such as drug trafficking, fraud and tax evasion.

AUSTRAC is a prescribed authority within the Australian Government's Attorney General's portfolio. Our head office is in Sydney, and we have offices in Melbourne, Perth, Adelaide, Brisbane and Canberra.
